Seymour’s stars welcome slate of events

Clear your schedule next week - Spring Fling is about to rock Seymour.
The largest outdoor music event is the town’s history will kick of June 5 to the delight of music-lovers throughout the region.
Big Mama’s Karaoke Café, Chartbuster Karaoke, Big Mama Recording Studio, The Chartbuster Experience, and Big Mama Digital Entertainment
which operate under the auspices of Tennessee Production Center, Inc.,
major sponsors along with the South Knox · Seymour Times, will join
with participating merchants Jabs & Abs, Shorin Ryu Karate, Real
Deal Motors, Style Makers, Speed of Light Tan, Tieke, and Fun Time Vacations to bring Seymour a six-day music festival that will be one for the record books.
In the cool night air throughout the Spring Fling, music from every
genre will be represented by both established acts, new bands just
getting to grips with performing, and people just like you, as the
slate of events for the festival has been crafted to bring joy to
everyone who loves music.
Utilizing TPC, Inc.’s state-of-the-art mobile professional lighting and
sound stage, Café Event Coordinator Kristi Douglas and her crew of pros
will be the catalyst for talent in our region to display their best
performances.
A huge variety of music, food and fun will be the hallmarks of the
event, with prizes for the performers and the crowd of admirers, and
those who just want to let loose for a little while.
Featuring two nights of live bands, a Bike Night, and Karaoke Under the
Stars, the festival will culminate in Sunday’s Community Family
Festival, a fun-for-all-ages blast sure to get your toes tapping.
Of particular note is Thursday’s Dress and Sing Like a Star event,
where participants will be asked to mimic their favorite performers in
style and song.
Sunday wraps up the event with a Community Family Festival with a
special emphasis on having a safe and fun summer, with demonstrations
and performances throughout the day from safety professionals and
prizes galore from the participating merchants.
The community will be buzzing about Spring Fling all summer long, so
it’s an event you don’t want to miss. Bring the family, an appetite,
and your love of music all week long to Seymour’s premiere
entertainment venue, Big Mama’s Karaoke Café.

Big Mama’s Karaoke Café
and the South Knox · Seymour Times are bringing you the Battle of the
Bands, every weekend this summer, starting with the blowout Spring
Fling beginning June 5 at the Café in Seymour.
“We are very excited about this event,” said Norbert Stovall, CEO of Tennessee Production Center, Inc.
(TPC). “It gives musicians of all ages and performance skills the
opportunity to perform on a professional stage, showcase their talents
to our community and also get the opportunity to go in a professional
recording studio to make a great recording.”
All bands and all genres are invited to put their blazing licks and
high-stepping kicks on stage at the Battle, which will take place on a
state-of-the-art mobile professional lighting and sound stage at Big
Mama’s Karaoke Café and a select group of Seymour and south Knoxville
businesses throughout the season.
Got a band? Get practicing, because the contest is open to everyone.
Don’t have a band? Then start one, because you know you can be a star,
and the prizes for winners are enough to make any music-lover pick up
an axe and power-chord away.
Two categories will be offered: “garage” bands, who play non-paying
gigs or who’ve never had a public performance, and semi-professional
and pro bands, who’ve already honed their stage skills before a paying
audience.
In addition to the exposure, all bands will compete for a suite of
fantastic prizes offered by TPC, Inc. First place in each category will
receive a two-day recording session (20 hours) at Big Mama’s Recording Studio
(bigmamarecordingstudio.com), 300 retail-ready CDs of the band’s
session for the band to sell, a PA system with 4 microphones, 50 DVDs
of the bands performance, and one song performance video to be posted
all year at Big Mama’s and other entertainment websites.
Second and third place winners in each category will receive a one-day
recording session at Big Mama’s Recording Studio, 100 retail ready CDs
of the band’s session for the band to sell, 4 microphones, one song
performance video to be posted all year at Big Mama’s and other
entertainment websites, and a new electric guitar from Tennessee
Production Center, Inc.
All winning bands’ videos will be submitted to the American Idol Band Contest for next season’s contest.
“Music is great for the soul and brings everyone together, all ages and
backgrounds,” said Debi Stovall, president of TPC, Inc. “It’s the
universal language. We hope this will bring members of the community
together to meet and greet each other.”
One song from each band’s performance will be posted at karaokecafe.com
for voting, where each performance can be downloaded to your PC or
favorite handheld device. The online vote will be tallied along with
the votes of a group of professional music industry judges to choose
the winners.
And everyone can participate - come to each event to cheer on your
favorites, enjoy the breadth of talent our area has to offer, and win
prizes just by being there. Drawings will be held throughout each
event, and prizes such as a mini-chopper motorcycle, compliments of
Real Deal Motors, “Your ATV Connection”, free karaoke CDs and more.
The finals will be held Saturday, August 25 at Big Mama’s Karaoke Café in Seymour, where “Everyone’s a Star”.
